Multi-Factor Authentication Setup Guide

Secure your StockCraft account with two-factor authentication using an authenticator app.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security to your StockCraft account by requiring a time-based code from your authenticator app in addition to your password when signing in.

What You'll Need

An authenticator app installed on your smartphone or computer. We recommend:

  • Google Authenticator - Available for iOS and Android
  • Microsoft Authenticator - Available for iOS and Android
  • Authy - Available for iOS, Android, and Desktop

Enabling MFA

Step 1: Navigate to Settings

Sign in to StockCraft and click on your profile icon in the top right corner. Select "Settings" from the dropdown menu, then click on the "Security" tab.

Step 2: Enable MFA

In the Multi-Factor Authentication section, you'll see your current MFA status (Disabled). Click the "Enable MFA" button to begin the setup process.

Step 3: Scan the QR Code

A dialog will appear with a QR code. Open your authenticator app and select the option to add a new account (usually a "+" button or "Add Account"). Choose "Scan QR Code" and point your camera at the QR code displayed on screen.

Step 4: Manual Entry (Optional)

If you can't scan the QR code, you can manually enter the secret key shown below the QR code. In your authenticator app, select "Enter a setup key" or "Manual entry" and type in the secret code along with your account name (StockCraft).

Step 5: Verify the Code

Once you've added StockCraft to your authenticator app, it will start generating 6-digit codes that refresh every 30 seconds. Enter the current code shown in your app into the verification field in StockCraft and click "Verify and Enable".

Step 6: Confirmation

If the code is correct, MFA will be enabled on your account. You'll see a success message and your MFA status will change to "Enabled".

Signing In with MFA

Once MFA is enabled, signing in requires two steps:

  1. Enter your email and password as usual
  2. When prompted, open your authenticator app and enter the current 6-digit code

The code changes every 30 seconds, so make sure to enter it before it expires. If a code doesn't work, wait for the next code to appear and try again.

Disabling MFA

If you need to disable MFA, go to Settings > Security and click "Disable MFA". You'll need to enter a current code from your authenticator app to confirm the change. This ensures that only you can disable MFA on your account.

Troubleshooting

Code Not Working

If your codes aren't working, check that:

  • Your device's time is set to automatic (authenticator apps rely on accurate time)
  • You're entering the code before it expires (30 seconds)
  • You're looking at the correct account in your authenticator app

Lost Access to Authenticator App

If you lose access to your authenticator app (lost phone, deleted app, etc.), contact StockCraft support for assistance with account recovery. This is why we recommend using an authenticator app that supports cloud backup, like Authy or Microsoft Authenticator.

QR Code Won't Scan

If your camera can't scan the QR code, use the manual entry option. Copy the secret key and enter it manually in your authenticator app along with the account name "StockCraft".
